Sage Capital Bank was chartered originally as American National Bank in 1984 by a group of Gonzales businessmen with the mission to create a financial institution that would better serve the banking needs of the community. Today, four of the original seven charter members of the board still serve as directors. In 1995, the bank opened its first branch office in Lockhart. Today, the bank operates in Gonzales, Lockhart, Luling, and San Marcos, with plans to open new full-service banking centers in New Braunfels by the year’s end and Shiner in early 2010.
In recent years, as we began to explore additional opportunities for growth, we discovered that there are over 150 banks throughout Texas with some variation of an “American Bank†name. Given that fact, we decided that we needed a new name - one that would accommodate future growth, eliminate customer confusion with similarly named banks, and build a strong, unique brand.
To better reflect our Texas values, our Texas roots, and our mission as a community bank, we chose a name we could stand behind with pride. Sage Capital Bank brings to mind the qualities of native Texas sage - a shrub that is strong, resilient and native to the land. But sage also refers to knowledge, wisdom, and experience - someone revered for wisdom and good judgment. To better communicate these traits, our new name is paired with the tagline, ‘Financial Wisdom. Texas Roots.’â€
American National Bank was a name that served us well for 25 years, but we look forward to the new name that reflects those same values and also separates us from the crowd. We want our customers and the community we serve to know that there’s only one Sage Capital Bank.
