First national bank
First national bank

First National Bank is headquartered in historic George West, Texas. The town is named after former cattle baron Mr. George West.

First National Bank was founded in January, 1934 and its charter was issued by the
Comptroller of the Currency in February 1934. The bank had four employees when it
opened its doors for business. By 1939 the bank had accumulated assets totaling
$391,000 and almost 20 years later in 1957, assets had grown to the huge sum of
$2,000,000. By 1961, another $1 million in assets had been added to the bank and
Margaret Pugh James came to work and is still working here today after 42 years of
continuous employment.

The "Boom" years of the early 80's were marked by a tripling of the bank building's
physical size and an almost doubling of its asset base. What is most remarkable about
those years is the fact that, while the bank did suffer some significant setbacks in the
form of loan losses, we did not fail to make a profit in any of those years and more
importantly, we did not fail, as many banks in our area and across the State were being
forced out of business. Leadership from our owners and hard work from our employees kept our bank strong while weaker institutions disappeared from the banking scene. One of the biggest factors that helped us survive the turbulent 80's was our customers, they never lost faith in our bank.

In 1991, we opened our first branch facility in Three Rivers, our second Live Oak County location, and in 1997 we opened a branch in Floresville, in Wilson County. Our newest location opened November 1, 2001 in San Antonio.

We now have 4 banking locations, 66 employees, and over $155 million in assets, and one continuing goal, which is to provide you, our customer, with the best overall banking experience in South Texas.

First National Bank is owned and operated by South Texans. We make our decisions at the local office where you do your business. We take pride in knowing our customers by name, not by account number or profitability score.

First National Bank, we were here yesterday, we're here today, and we'll be here for you in the future. That's something to think about when you're trying to choose between a local bank and one of those impersonal, out-of-state, multi-billion dollar financial center banks.
